Bureaucrat’s ex-wife nabbed in prostitution case

BAI: The Kherwadi police recently arrested the ex-wife of a senior government official in a prevention of immoral trafficking case.
She was running a prostitution racket from her beauty parlour in Mumbai’s Bandra West. A court has remanded her in police custody till March 29.
The accused, Deepali Rajendra Bhosale, was running Amoha Spa near MIG club. On March 14, social service (SS) branch of Mumbai police raided the premises. They rescued five girls who were being forced into prostitution and arrested two customers in the case.
Bhosale managed to escape from the premises. The SS branch handed over the case to local police (Kherwadi) for investigation.

The police was inquiring about her details and they traced her on Monday. The police said that she was running a prostitution business from her beauty parlour to avoid suspicion. The SS branch recently learnt about the illegal activities at parlour and raided the premises after sending a decoy.
Bhosale told the police that she and her husband had seperated two years ago. The husband is posted in Pune and was the personal secretary of a senior minister in Maharashtra.

No camera on dancers, three-foot high non-removable partitions: Court
Court told state govt to grant licenses within 10 days after bars comply
No security cameras will be allowed in the performance areas of dance bars, the Supreme Court ruled today, modifying seven conditions set by Maharashtra Police for granting licences.

Police stations will also not get live feed of video from the dance bars, the Supreme Court said. It has ordered three-foot-high non-removable partitions between the performance areas and audience.

“It is not a case of security in that sense. We also want to ensure safety bereft of obscenity. CCTV to be fitted only at the entrance of the dance bars,” the court said.

Senior advocate Rajiv Dhawan who appeared for a dance bar girls union opposed CCTV cameras saying, “CCTV in shops and restaurants are installed to ensure no one steals. What will be shown in CCTV are not just the bar dancers but patrons some of whom may not want to be identified.”

Clearing the decks for issuing dance bar licences to hotels and restaurants in Mumbai, the top court has given three days to prospective owners to comply with the new conditions after which they will be issued licenses within 10 days.

The court order came after the Maharashtra government watered down some of the conditions for granting of dance bar licences.

The Maharashtra government had banned dance bars in 2005. But in October last year the Supreme Court had overruled the state, saying that those working there had a right to livelihood.

An estimated 70,000 women used to work in Mumbai’s dance bars before the ban. Their association says that many have been left jobless and some forced to find more dangerous employment.

While sources in the Maharashtra Police say that they are considering deploying undercover policemen to ensure that no unlawful activities take place inside the dance bars, the state continues to challenge the matter in Court.
State can’t permit obscenity it has seen in the past in dance bars.
We will approach the Hon’ble Supreme Court with an alternative.

Women activists stopped from entering inner sanctum at Shani Shinganapur temple

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Women-activists-reach-Shani-Shingnapur/articleshow/51660506.cms

MEDNAGAR: A day after Bombay high court held that entry to temples was a fundamental right of women, scores of women activists on Saturday made a bid to storm the inner sanctum of Shani Shinganapur temple in Maharashtra to break the ban but they were stopped by the villagers.
Upset at her attempt being foiled, Trupti Desai, who led the Bhumata Ranragini Brigade, said she would file an FIR against chief minister Devendra Fadnavis if he fails to honour the Bombay high court order facilitating entry of females to places of worship.
Vowing to intensify the campaign for gender justice after the tense faceoff, Desai said a police complaint would be also filed against those who prevented the activists from entering the core area of the shrine in Ahmednagar district.
The high court had on Friday held that entry to temples was a fundamental right of women and it was the State’s fundamental duty to protect it.
On reaching the temple, Desai and her followers tried to scale the sacred platform but members of the local resistance group and temple officials pushed them away.
The villagers had laid a siege around the sacred area to stop the activists from storming the site.
Police then intervened, took the activists to a spot 100 metres away from the platform and threw a protective ring around them.
On being denied entry to the core area, Desai and her associates sat on a dharna protesting the failure of the authorities to uphold the court order.
Pankaj Deshmukh, Additional SP, said law and order will be maintained at the temple premises and neighbouring areas.
Police had been deployed in strength by the district authorities fearing a show-down between the campaigners and the local resisters, who had gathered in large numbers around the temple premises.
“If chief minister Devendra Fadnavis does not order police to allow us to worship at the restricted Shani platform area inside the temple in keeping with the HC order, I will file an FIR against him for violating it (the ruling)”, she told reporters.
Around 25 activists led by Desai proceeded to the temple this morning in 2-3 small vehicles from Pune.

“After the high court itself ruled in womens’ favour, we are determined to reach the sacred chauthara(platform) of the temple and we are sure that police will not restrict us en route,” Desai said before leaving Pune.
On being told that if a temple does not allow any person, irrespective of gender, inside the sanctum sanctorum, then this Act (Maharashtra Hindu Place of Worship (Entry Authorisation) Act 1956) and its provisions will not be of any help, Desai said, “In case of Shani Shinganapur, the temple trust used to allow men at ‘chauthara’ and only after our agitation started, they had put restrictions on males. So we should not be restricted.”

Desai also urged the chief minister to issue directives to the local administration and police to cooperate with them to go inside the temple peacefully and allow them to worship Lord Shani, whose idol is placed at the ‘chauthara’.
The shrine is dedicated to Lord Shani, who personifies the planet Saturn in Hindu belief. Women devotees are not permitted on the platform as per centuries-old tradition followed at the shrine, which has no walls or a roof.

Actress Pratyusha Banerjee of Balika Vadhu fame commits suicide

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/tv/news/hindi/Actress-Pratyusha-Banerjee-of-Balika-Vadhu-fame-commits-suicide/articleshow/51651798.cms

MBAI: Television actress Pratyusha Banerjee, who shot to fame for her role as Anandi in ‘Balika Vadhu’, committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at her Goregaon residence on Friday. She was 24.
Her fiance, actor-producer Rahul Raj, found her hanging around 5pm and informed her uncle. She was rushed to the Kokilaben Ambani Hospi tal in Andheri where doctors pronounced her dead and informed police. According to media reports published in December 2015, Pratyusha was to tie the knot with Raj. Their relationship was reportedly volatile.
Her WhatsApp status on Friday read: “Marr ke bhi muh na tujhse modna.” Raj did not answer any phone calls from mediapersons on Friday. “Pratyusha had called up a friend on Friday to ask a few things about Rahul’s ex-girlfriend. She suspected Rahul was cheating on her. Pratyusha was depressed as she wasn’t finding any work and cash was drying up,” a friend said.
TV actor Dolly Bindra told TOI: “I spoke to her mother who is in Jamshedpur. She will first fly to Kolkata and reach Mumbai by Saturday.” Pratyusha’s ex-boyfriend Makrand Malhotra, who was at the hospital, is believed to be arranging air tickets for her family.
In 2013, Pratyusha had filed a police complaint against Malhotra, accusing him of verbal abuse and death threats on phone and in person.
After her death on Friday, Bangur Nagar police made inquiries with her neighbours at the Goregaon building where she lived. They are also speaking to her friends from the TV industry. Investigators will go through her call and message details, mails and social media accounts for leads.
Actors Anup Soni, Meghna Naidu, Gurmeet Chaudhary, Debina Bonerjee, Sara Khan, Jay Bhanushhali, Sachin Shroff, Ajay Chaudhary, Smita Bansal, Rakhi Sawant and Bindra reached Kokilaben Ambani Hospital. Ram Narain, CEO of the Andheri hospital, refused to comment.
Bindra said, “I saw her body. She had applied sindoor.”
Designer Rohit Verma said Pratyusha had wanted a wedding lehenga designed for her.

Sidharth Sengupta, who directed her in ‘Balika Vadhu’, said, “I’m at a loss for words. Though she quit the serial some years back, she used to call me and the team for her birthday every August.”
Meanwhile, this January, Pratyusha had lodged an FIR with Kandivli police against eight men, including some cops, for allegedly barging in to her home at Kandivli and misbehaving with her. She had taken a car loan a year ago and had defaulted on an EMI of Rs 5,000. She claimed that on December 31, a recovery agent turned up when Raj was present. “We paid him the EMI and he left,” Pratyusha had told TOI. But the agent, Amit Dalvi, said he had gone with cops as Raj had bashed him up on New Year’s Eve. He denied misbehaviour charge.
Twitter saw an outpouring of messages, including one from Abhishek Bachchan who wrote: “What have u done Pratyusha Banerjee, I wish it was an April Fool news, She was just 24! RIP Aanandi.”
