NEWS-Haryana govt offers compensation of Rs.2 per acre to farmers for damaged crops
The state government has fixed the paltry amount as compensation after conducting a special survey when water-logging destroyed standing wheat crops in 2011.
First the poor farmers were made to wait for almost two years for the compensation and when their cheques arrived, they were left crestfallen.
Cheques of Rs.2 to Rs.30 were handed out to farmers in villages of Jhajjar recently. To add to their woes, the villagers needed to open bank accounts to encash the cheques, which would cost much more in travel and documentation
